Hiva Alizadeh, Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1989, Alizadeh is a self-trained artist who first entered the field with the creation of an experimental film. He now creates sculptural (hair) works and installationsWhen you look at the artworks, viewed from afar they resemble color-field abstractions. Moving closer, they emerge as tresses of brightly colored synthetic hair, streaming down the wall like rivulets of paint. For Alizadeh, the strands of hair comprising his works also resemble the fibers used to weave tales of beauty in the ancient Iranian art of carpet making; a tradition to which the artist pays tribute with his work and which he seeks to anchor in contemporary art.
